The Patent Application Process Flow Diagram
The following flow chart is from the US Patent Office and it describes the patent application process. The patent application process flowchart outlines the steps involved in obtaining a patent for a new invention or idea.
The first step is to determine if the invention is patentable, such as by conducting a prior art patent search. Then depending on what type of patent protection you are looking for, you may need to determine a patent strategy and a filing strategy. This may include seeking international protection. Most of these discussions should involve consultation with a KC Patent Attorney.
With the assistance of a Patent Attorney, and after reviewing the results of the prior art search report, you sould consider filing a patent applicaiton. The patent application should describe the invention in detail and explain how it is novel and non-obvious.
